Softening neural probes access to deep layers of the rat brain

February 26, 2019

Softening neural implants that are able to change their elastic modulus under physiological conditions are promising candidates to reduce mechanical mismatch between the artificial interface and the brain tissue. The joint effort of American and Hungarian scientist resulted in a novel approach to monitor the activity of deep neural structures using shape memory polymer based microelectrodes.
